Top roping
Top-roping is rock climbing for those who want to ensure minimal chance of injury. It may seem strange to state that some people want to avoid injury, however, some rock climbers enjoy the thrill of beating the odds.
Top-roping is where the climber ascends a rock face and is secured by a rope to the top of the climb. Top-roping requires a vigilant support crew who acts as look out and belay team should the climber actually fall.
Top roping is a good beginner point to large rock face climbing, although many experienced climbers prefer the security of a top rope and impose upon themselves other conditions that add to the challenge of the climb. This could include no tension on the top rope (ie. no tight rope) and no resting for the duration of the climb.
