Sport climbing
There are several accepted sport climbing types of ascent. The most common ones are on-sight flash, flash and redpoint.
On-sight flash sees the climber walk up to the climbing route and complete it from bottom to top, with no falls or any pre-knowledge of the climb.
Flash is where the climb is completed on the first attempt but the climber has some pre-knowledge.
Redpoint is where the climber has practised the climb any number of times and has worked out the critical elements of the climb (including foot holds, etc.) The time the climber completes the climb from bottom to top, with no rests or falls is known as the redpoint.
