Rope Characteristics

There are many factors to consider when looking to purchase a rope that will suit your climbing needs. The most common issues to consider can be categorized as:

1. Handling property: softer ropes are easier to handle, but more prone to friction damage.
2. Abrasion resistance: highly resistance ropes tend to be heavy
3. Water shedding: rope weight increases as does handling difficulty if a rope absorbs water

These characteristics along with thoughts regarding dynamic or static rope type is crucial, along with the terrain being considered for the climb.
