Couloir

Couloir is a mountain gully that typically has a base of snow or ice. The couloir is a steep gully bound by rocks.

A couloir is quite often a relatively easy path to follow, but they can be subject to rock and ice fall. 'Moat' is a term given to where snow peels away from the rocks in summer.
