Buttress

Buttress is a natural occuring phenomenon that describes a mass of rock that protrudes from a mountainside.

A buttress will cause the climber with challenges that can include inability to see hand and foot holds. If the buttress is severe it can require the climber to consider alternative climbing techniques to deal with the overhang.
